About Us

It’s funny — The Puppet Circus came before the company. It started with a dream (quite literally), scribbled onto a tiny notepad while we were on holiday. That strange idea grew into something bigger — a full play for schools, designed to entertain and challenge. We needed a company to put it on. So we built one. Alight Productions was born.

Right now, The Puppet Circus is awaiting an ACE funding decision — and we’re ready to launch the moment we get the go ahead.

Since then, Alight has grown — but our mission hasn’t changed. We’re a creative company built around storytelling in all its forms. We create bold, original theatre for primary schools, complete with in-school workshops and supporting learning materials.

But plays aren’t all we do. Alongside our theatre work, we’ve launched a series of online creative writing courses for people of all ages. Designed by a team that includes a Doctor of Creative Writing, our courses are engaging, (often) surprising, and (always) designed to encourage a genuine love of writing.

What sets us apart is how we centre our audience in everything we do — building our work around the real lives, humour, and voices of the people we serve.

And yes, we do have an aeruss on our senior management team. Seth isn’t a mascot. He’s a storyteller, an editor, a knitter, and an essential voice in everything we create. We’re lucky to have him — and we think the world is better for hearing what he has to say.

Testimonials

See what our clients are saying...

Devon primary school Head Teacher

"In a time where children are absorbed in a world of social media and online gaming, it would be refreshing for the children to have access to a means of communication that many of them would not have experienced before.”

Jo Poulton Teacher and Learning Consultant

"I was a teacher for over forty years and specialised working with students with learning differences. Alight’s courses suit all students and introduce a variety of learning and discovery methods which are enjoyable and beneficial to all."

Devon primary school Head Teacher

"The themes covered within the visits of inclusivity, teamwork, and creativity are essential skills that children need to establish in order to be successful in their primary school lives but also beyond. Surrounded by reports in the media of prejudice and racism, the important message of inclusivity has become even more important for children to experience and to understand.”

Devon primary school Head Teacher

"With school budgets becoming increasingly tight, the opportunity for free-workshops which address such important issues through the arts is incredibly appealing for us as a school.”

Jo Poulton Teacher and Learning Consultant

"In my opinion, Alight's creative writing courses will appeal to children as they are exciting, and will enthuse them to let their creativity “run wild”. The courses build the creativity and skills over the weeks and gives tips, activities and starters to encourage all the learners to develop their skills in bite-sized pieces. The format is welcoming and useable. The children will have Seth as their supportive pal."
