Unusual Perspectives

Unusual Perspectives for KS4 is about giving a voice to the characters people usually overlook. They deserve to be heard – maybe it’s a storm, maybe a backpack, or even regret itself. Writing from unusual perspectives is seriously freeing, and a healthy thing to experiment with. This course encourages students to consider the unexpected, and to think beyond the usual GCSE stuff (while still being helpful). 

Unusual Perspectives is perfect for learners who want to push the boundaries of storytelling and discover just how far their ideas can take them. Some might wonder, “Who cares what a backpack thinks?” Which is exactly why you should write it.

What You’ll Do:

• Familiarise with first, second, and third person narration, and how tone shapes stories
• Write from unexpected narrators, like animals, objects, or concepts
• Step into the shoes of ‘villains’ and overlooked characters to explore motivations, as well as consider what a villain even IS
• Craft twist endings with hidden narrators
• Design your own story cover to deepen meaning through visual storytelling (maybe. It’s optional. But it’s all optional, really.)
